The founding Shark Angels are all divers and have long been passionate about sharks. As divers, we began witnessing the disappearance of sharks first hand. In recent years, all of us, independently, moved on a course to become more involved with sharks – and ultimately, each other.

We come from very different backgrounds, and conservation organizations, but share a passion for sharks and are horrified at the rate that man is destroying them. One of us became a shark scientist, one a marine protector, one a founder of an activist organization to protect sharks, one a marine photographer, and two conservation filmmakers -- five different approaches to saving sharks and five who come equipped together to fight at the front of any battle line.

When we met by chance, we realized we have a purpose, and that is to become the guardian angels of sharks. And, we all felt it was about time to use the media that has been for centuries used against sharks, to actually save them.

Our complementary personalities, histories, skills, and shared passion serendipitously launched us on a mission none of us could ever have imagined: warriors and “poster children” for the cause.  Since media has been a primary focus from the start for Shark Angels, our team is as strong in that category as it is in conservation. We began as three angels: Alison Kock, Julie Andersen, and Kim McCoy, and a support team of three behind the scenes, Paul Wildman, Shawn Heinrichs, and Eric Cheng, but we always hoped to have many more. To date, hundreds of other angels from around the world share our passion and fight.

We began working together in November of 2007 and have accomplished much including financing and filming two major productions geared at exposing the issues, heightening awareness and changing perspectives, the creation of a robust, edgy but educational, the formation of a network of Angels over 3,000 strong, the development of a very strong brand identity with world wide recognition, the creation of an eagerly awaited line of apparel, and the deployment of world-wide campaigns that are like www.removethenets.com in South Africa. All of this has been personally fueled through contributions and sweat equity.

What started as an alliance between conservation organizations has now reached even greater potential – and far more angels than just three.  Together we are on a quest to save as many sharks as we can – as quickly as possible. Join our forces. Become an angel too.
