Rocking the world for sharks in 2011 and 2012!

alt

We took flight in a big way in 2011! Globally connected, Shark Angels around the world took action locally this year, fueled by empowering tools, a collaborative community, and a shared passion. Through positive education, media and grassroots outreach, Shark Angels changed the future for sharks. And 2012 promises to be even more exciting – with your continued support. Up until now, we have self-funded all our efforts. We've proven we can do a lot with a little, but now we need your help.  Please donate today!

All about action in 2011:

Fin Free:
More than 10% of Canada now lives in a place where shark fin is illegal! We launched Fin Free with United Conservationists and had huge wins throughout Canada – including Toronto! The movement has spread to the US, Australia, and France. We even worked to introduce national legislation in Canada.

Positive media for sharks:
Our positive PR campaign for sharks gained steam – we stood up for sharks on the Today Show, ABC News and National Geographic, not to mention dozens of newspapers, magazines and productions – we even took part in two movies and a video game! Millions watched, played and read, becoming inspired by seeing sharks in a whole new light.

Shark Cherubs:
Hundreds of children joined our cause, signing the Shark Cherub’s pledge to protect sharks all over classrooms. Kids stood up for sharks in a big way – from fundraisers like “Jawbreakers for Jaws” to getting into the water with them!

Our crew grew:
Thousands earned their wings
from Algeria to New Zealand. And our team of incredible featured angels tripled, inspiring new activists, each in their own special way, around the world.

Fueling the movement:
We launched a new organization, brand, website, a full line of cool gear and even announced several new exciting partnerships – including SCUBAPRO and Worldwide Dive and Sail!

Shark Angels has funded all of it through personal contributions and hard work. . Donations, tax deductible in the US, are desperately needed and greatly appreciated. They’ll be applied directly towards our 2012 projects. Any amount helps. Please donate today.

We’ve got a huge year ahead of us… rocking the world for sharks in 2012:

  • We are making more of the world Fin Free. A global, positive, movement, it is spreading across the world – even in Taipei.
  • Shark Angels is launching in France… and China!
  • Kids take center stage – as we launch new programs for our Cherubs – from Canada to Singapore.
  • We are journeying to Layang Layang, the Bahamas, Maldives, Singapore, Chicago and New York. And you can join us doing real work in the field for sharks!
  • We’re launching new programs targeted at people who can make a difference for sharks – but are new to the cause.
  • We will continue to grow, inspire and build a community of angels. If you haven’t earned your wings, what are you waiting for? Join us today!

In 2011, we came together, took a stand, and learned all of our hard work over the past three years was worth it. We can and did change the world – not just for sharks or the oceans, but for our shared futures. May 2012 see the movement spread even further – and ignite an even broader passion for change.

Special new years wishes to all the Shark Angels everywhere dedicated to making this world a better place. Because of all of your tireless hard work and support, we’ve made a real difference. And together, we are going to do it again and again!

Forever united for the sharks-

Julie Andersen, Founder, Shark Angels
